Thankfully the cliff-hanger left at the end of Half-Life: Alyx suggests that Valve doesn't want to give up on its most beloved franchise just yet. In fact, last year, a list detailing multiple cancelled projects by Valve revealed that the studio had once been working on a game referred to within the studio as Half-Life 3 before it was. However, the team will have to rewrite the game's story from the ground up, as former Half-Life story writer Marc Laidlaw kind of spoiled its plot a few years ago. Now, it is entirely possible that Valve could shift focus back to Half-Life 3 once the Steam Deck is out and about. Citadel is expected to launch sometime in the next two years if things go smoothly. I cant find this tweet anywhere, Its really weird. It is essentially a cooperative first-person shooter that incorporates elements of Left 4 Dead and Half-Life. Half Life 3 in The Game Awards I remember a tweet from The Game Awards saying 'this years event will be very orange' or something like that and everyone in the comments said orange box 2/half life 3. It was an episode in its own right and arguably the best VR game ever. Additionally, Valve seems to be more interested in a mystery project called Citadel. With Half-Life Alyx, Valve has given us a nice comeback of the Half-Life franchise. Most of Valve's resources are directed towards pushing out the already-delayed Steam Deck, which is slated to launch later next year. The information comes from YouTuber Tyler McVicker (via VGC), who states that Valve has a 'minor' group of people working on Half-Life 3. At the conclusion of the game, Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance are about to leave.

Those expecting to see it in the coming years are in for a bit of a disappointment, as Valve doesn't have a team working on any Half-Life game at the moment. On June 28, 1999, the domain is registered under the same. It is hard to determine if it will arrive in the form of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 or, at this point, even see the light of day.

The game had a difficult production due to the unfinished state of the Source 2 engine it was built on, and was eventually canceled. The sequel to Half-Life 2: Episode 2 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated games, right up there with GTA VI and Star Citizen. During this year, a prototype of Half-Life 3 is developed, which would feature a mix of scripted narrative content and procedurally generated combat scenarios, inspired by the gameplay of Left 4 Dead 2.
